Algeria's nickname is the Desert Foxes. Belgium's nickname is the Red Devils. In the clash between the two as they opened up their World Cup play, Belgium was heavily favored to win. In the 25th minute a terrible challenge in the box gifted Algeria a penalty kick. Sofiane Feghouli converted the penalty and gave Algeria a surprising 1-0 lead. Their staunch defense kept Belgium at bey, and that remained the score at the half. The trick about the devil is indeed his tricks. Belgium had none of those, but they did have some substitutions up their sleeve. As this tournament has shown us, you have to do more than just score a penalty. You have to do even more than score first. You have to do more than hold a lead. You absolutely must keep scoring. In the 70th minute substitute Marouane Fellaini scored a header to tie the game. In the 80th minute, substitute Dries Mertens scored on a fast break opportunity to give Belgium the lead and win. Just like that, the foxes found themselves outfoxed.
