The final day of games for Group B has come to a conclusion. Australia and Spain entered the last day of their World Cup having been eliminated and playing for pride. For Spain, this was a chance to right the ship and show that they aren't completely finished being a world power, rather that they only need to rework some things. For Australia, a win over Spain would be a huge victory for the country, even if Spain aren't the monsters they've been in previous years. As such the game would kick off and Spain would go up 1-0 in the 36th minute by way of David Villa. In the second half they would dominate the game and score twice more. A 69th minute goal by struggling forward Fernando Torres, and an 82nd minute goal by Juan Mata. As such, Australia finish bottom of the group with 0 points while Spain take third with the 3 points. The third straight defending champion to fail to make it out of the group stage, Spain has much to look forward to. France won the final in 1998, then failed to make it out of the group in 2002, only to return to the final in 2006. 2006 champions Italy failed to make it out of the group in 2010, but look a solid side more than capable of winning this year. Only time will tell what Spain can come to.

The other match of the group pitted Chile against Netherlands. Each team had 6 points, but goal differential gave Netherlands the advantage. All Oranje needed was a draw to claim the group. What they got was a 2-0 win that didn't come easily. The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when Leroy Fer gave the Dutch the lead. Substitute Memphis Depay would score a second in stoppage time giving the Dutch the group with 9 points. Chile earn the runner's up spot, and both teams hope to avoid Brazil in the second round.
