France's thrashing of Switzerland put Les Bleus in first with six points, and held the Swiss to just 3 points. This left the door open for the bottom feeders Honduras and Ecuador to get back into the tournament. Even a loss here doesn't eliminate one from the tournament, but it does make it that much harder. Honduras came out firing first, trying once again to put on some of that Central American flair that has been working for Costa Rica. Carlo Costly scored in the 31st minute putting Los Catrachos ahead for the first time this World Cup. Just three minutes later Enner Valencia equalized for Ecuador. Tied at the half, there was all to play for in the second. Things remained at a stalemate unit the 65th minute when Valencia scored again. Ecuador would hold, and gain the three points putting them in second for the time being, looking to extend their excursion into Brazil. Honduras can still make it if they can defeat Switzerland by a large margin, and have France defeat Ecuador by a similar margin. This isn't very likely, but could leave the last day of matches for Group E quite interesting.
