Why Australians Will Never Visit Memphis, Tennessee

It was the second match of the first round for these two teams. Australia was trying to rebound from a difficult 1-2 loss to Chile in their first game, a game that saw them narrowly miss on gaining a point. Netherlands, on the other hand, had that 5-1 demolition of reigning World Cup Champions Spain. This surely would be a cakewalk for Oranje. Not so fast, Arjen Robben would continue the Dutch momentum in this tournament by giving them the 1-0 lead just 20 minutes in. Much like the kangaroo, the Socceroos were up to hop back into this one. Just a minute later Tim Cahill would tie the game for Australia. The draw would hold to halftime. In the second half, Netherlands would fall behind after Mile Jedinak would convert a penalty to give Australia the 2-1 lead in the 54th minute. Just four minutes later, not to be outdone, Robin van Persie would tie the game. Ten minutes later the game would be decided when Memphis Depay would score the third goal for Netherlands. With zero points after two games, Australia became the first team to be eliminated in this World Cup. Netherlands have all but guaranteed themselves a spot in the knockout rounds.
