France entered the final match knowing they were through to the second round. It was a question of how many points they would win while conquering Group E. Ecuador, on the other hand, needed a win so that they wouldn't have to go home. Nothing would come of this match. Not only was it one of few to finish in a draw, but it was only the 5th match to end without a goal. Needless to say, France move on, and Ecuador are Ecua Out. France will play Nigeria in the 2nd round.
Switzerland needed a win to ensure that they made it through to the knockout stages. Honduras were already planning to go home, but had a chance to complete at least one upset following in the footsteps of fellow Central Americans Costa Rica. It wasn't to be. Like a genie with 3 wishes, Xherdan Shaqiri scored in the 6th, 31st, and 71st minutes. The hattrick was just what Switzerland were hoping for, as this booked them through to round 2 where they will face off against Argentina.
