In the past 8 years, there have been two World Cups. The US has lost to Ghana twice in those World Cups, and seemed to have met a nemesis they just couldn't beat. Cue up the rematch in the group opening game for both teams. Not even a minute into it, US captain Clint Dempsey scored for a 1-0 lead that lasted into the half. Unfortunately, Ghana had most of the ball and would be on a constant storm to score. In the 82nd minute Andrew Ayew scored to tie the game 1-1 and give Ghana all the momentum. Four minutes later, John Brooks, who came on as a sub, scored a header to give the US the lead. With five minutes of extra time added, it became a tense end as the US fought to hold for the win. The whistle blew, and the US had finally beaten Ghana and have three crucial points when they still have to play Portugal and Germany.
