After that embarrassing 5-1 meltdown against Netherlands, Spain was pretty much in a must win predicament when it came to their match against Chile. The Chileans had three points from their victory against Australia, three more than Spain. And with Netherlands winning against Australia, and gaining six points, Spain had to come away with a victory to be in a comfortable position given their circumstances. The thing they absolutely could not do was lose. Yet, that's what they did. In the 20th minute Chile took a 1-0 lead off a goal by Eduardo Vargas. Spain had no answer and found themselves down by 2 at the half when two minutes before time Charles Aranguiz doubled up the Chilean lead. The second half would be the demise of Spain as they would fail to score even one goal. Though not out of the tournament, as they still have a match against Australia, Spain have no chance to repeat as champions, and their amazing run of winning a European Championship, a World Cup, and a second European Championship has come to an end. That was one hell of a run, but it's time for someone else to wear the crown.
