Bosnia and Herzegovina were already out of this tournament. They were playing for pride against Iran who still had a glimmer of hope. Iran needed to win on their part and hope for Argentina to beat Nigeria. The Dragons were not having that. A 23rd minute strike by Edin Dzeko put Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead. A 59th minute strike by Miralem Pjanic made it 2-0 and seemed to suck the life out of Iran. An 82nd minute goal by Reza Ghoochannejad made it 2-1, and Iran looked like they might have something left in the tank. This Dragon has three heads, and a minute later Avdija Vrsajevic put an exclamation mark on the World Cup for both Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Iran.
Argentina knew they were through to the next round. The question was would they win the group, or finish runners up? Nigeria could have seen their tournament come to a close with a loss and Iran beating Bosnia. Since Iran failed on their end, all Nigeria cared about was getting out of the game alive. This started out as an "anything you can do I can do, too" type of game. Lionel Messi saved Argentina in the 90th minute of their match against Iran by scoring the winning goal. He didn't wait that long this time. Just 3 minutes in, Messi struck to give Argentina the 1-0 lead. Not to be outdone, Nigeria's Ahmed Musa scored one minute later, and the game was tied at 1. Messi jumped to action at the close of the first half, scoring a goal in the 45th minute, and Argentina were up 2-1. The second half started, and it only took Musa two minutes to tie the game at 2-2. 3 minutes later Marcos Rojo scored for a 3-2 Argentina lead. That's when Lionel Messi was subbed off, the strategy being if he didn't score anymore, neither would Musa. And that's how the game ended. Argentina win the group and await to see who they play in the second round. Nigeria are also through, and are praying not to face France.
