How To Outfox a Warrior or Can the Real US Please Stand Up

The second match of the day saw Algeria with 0 points take on Korea who had but 1 point. Algeria struck early and often. Goals in the 26th, 28th, and 38th minutes from Islam Slimani, Rafik Halliche, and Abdelmoumene Djabou had the Desert Foxes up 3-0 at the break. Korea would try to come back as a 50th minute goal by Son Heungmin, but it would be nulled with a 60th minute goal by Yacine Brahimi to make it 4-1 Algeria. Korea would score a conciliation goal via Jacheol Koo. Just like that Algeria still have life in this tournament, while Korea will need somewhat of a miracle showing on the last day to advance

As for the marquise matchup, the US looked to take control of the group with a second straight win. Unfortunately, a defensive error in the 5th minute by Nani gave Portugal the lead. Though the US would pull it together and play better, they remained down 1-0 into the half. The game continued back and forth, with the US being frustrated at every goalscoring opportunity when in the 64th minute Jermaine Jones would score a phenomenal goal to tie the game. In the 81st minute, captain Clint Dempsey was in the right place at the right time and gave the US a well deserved 2-1 lead. That would hold until the very last seconds of the game. A Cristiano Ronaldo cross would find the head of Varela for the goal. Just like that the game ends a tie, and everyone in the group has hope.

Praeceptor's bonus point during the Belgium vs Russia game helped to propel her to a huge lead. The only contestant over 20 points thus far, this player has earned the player of the day award. As a result, here is your Niko Kovac smile.

Tomorrow the games come fast and furious as the group stage comes to a close. Two games for Group A will begin at noon. Group B will commence at 4:00pm. Some teams have made it to the knockout rounds. Other's have their fate still up in the air, while a few have already punched their tickets home. Good Luck to all.
