The United States made their return to a World Cup after missing out in 2018. Perhaps they had some luck in making it to this stage, but they had a difficult task in trying to topple the Netherlands. The US looked more aggressive to start the game even having an opportunity to score in just the 2nd minute. They couldn't convert. The pressure kept coming from America when the Netherlands were able to steal the ball, push it forward, and score through Memphis Depay in the 10th minute. The game would get bogged down until just before the half. Stale play from the US resulted in another turnover, another press forward by the Dutch, and another goal. This time Daley Bind scored to close out the half. America came out playing better in the second half, finally getting their breakthrough goal in the 76th minute thanks to Haji Wright. It felt like a comeback was possible, but Netherlands would close out the match just 5 minutes later thanks to Denzel Dumfries finding a 3rd goal.
