Ao the Way for Japan

 

Japan entered the final group stage with a chance to advance, but they needed to play well against Spain and have the result in the other match go their way. Spain were pretty much sure to advance, but were looking to close out the group strong. Alvaro Morata would get Spain running with a goal in the 11th minute. The match would head into halftime with Spain up 1-0. Japan would come out in the second half ready to play for their tournament lives. Ritsu Doan would do it again tying the match in 48th minute. Just 3 minutes later, Ao Tanaka would strike to put Japan up 2-1. They would never let go of that lead, and as a result topped the group. Spain's chances were still pretty good to advance as Germany would need to win by 8 goals or more.
