Hakimi's Penalty Kick leads to Moroccan Football

 

By all facts and statistics, it really should have been a no-brainer that Spain would win and advance to the Quarter-finals at the expense of Morocco. However, the match still has to be paid. In short, neither team could find a goal after 120 minutes, so it was a penalty kick shootout to see who would advance. 

Abdelhamid Sabiri entered this match as a substitute and was selected to take the first penalty kick. He strode up with power to strike the ball towards the lower right of the goal as Spanish keeper Unai Simon dove the opposite direction. Morocco 1-0 Spain.

Pablo Sarabia countered for Spain, as he, too, entered the match as a substitute. Sarabia would strike the ball low to the right corner with power. And though Morroccan keeper Yassine Bounou would guess the right direction, the only thing that kept the ball out of the net was the goalpost. Morocco 1-0 Spain after 1 round.

Hakim Ziyech would then step up for Morocco driving a strong shot straight down the middle the would score as Unia Simon dove his left and out of the way. Morocco 2-0 Spain.

Carlos Soler would be up for Spain. He gingerly made his way to the ball, and fired to the lower right corner where a diving Bounou would make the save. Morocco 2-0 Spain after 2 rounds.

Badr Benoun was next for Morocco. He shot low and to the left, but too close to a diving Simon who would make the save. Spain is still alive. Morocco 2-0 Spain.

Sergio Busquets would step up, and once again a Spanish player trotted towards the ball. Busquets would shoot low and to the left where a diving Bounou would again make the save. Morocco 2-0 Spain after 3 rounds.

Achraf Hakimi would take his penalty with the match on the line. Hakimi would strike the ball down the middle where once again Unai Simon would dive out of the way for the goal. Spain had run out of chances in the best of 5 shootout, and Morocco had punched their ticket to the Quarter-finals of a World Cup for the first time ever.
