Welcome Players,
Thank you for taking part in the 2022 TSzAL Winter World Cup of Qatar. Your interest in partaking in this tournament is appreciated as this competition takes place off of the regular cycle. Normally we gather every 2 years in the Summer, but this year in an FIFA's effort to keep the actual athletes from dying in the desert, we will be competing for the Puchar Zladupki from November 20th to December 18th.
If you have not already, you will be receiving an e-mail inviting you to view a Google Sheets document. Each player will receive a separate invitation to their picks sheet. This year you will be using an automated bracket to help you with filling out the groups and the playoffs.
Begin by accessing your sheet and viewing the short dossier about each nation partaking in FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar located on the blog below. Here you will find the crest, jerseys, nicknames, FIFA and Elo rankings, coaches, captains, history at the FIFA World Cup, and how they qualified for the tournament. You may expand upon that information using any sources you would like. If you would like help in gathering information, please let the Grand Salmon Alpaca know. He is more than willing to help.
Instructions for filling out your brackets are simple. Decide if you think a match will result with a winner, or a draw. Enter the score for each team next to the nation's name. The group standings will automatically fill in.
Once you have finished entering all the scores, take a look at the cells for the Group Winner and Group Runner-up. If either of these cells contain a 0, that means you have a tie. Look at the two nations on the same amount of points (column H). You can either adjust the scores to have one group winner and one group runner-up, or simply type in the number 1 in the Tiebreaker column (column I) of the group standings for the nation that you would like to finish higher in the group.
Click through all the tabs and fill out Groups A through H. Once you have filled out all results for the groups, go to the Playoffs tab. You will see that the bracket is already set for you based on your first round picks. In the first box, enter the score you believe the match will have. If you believe there will be a tie, and the match will go to penalties, please fill out the second box. The winner will automatically be filled into the next round for you.
Continue making picks this way through to the final match-up. Please be sure to scroll down to see the 3rd place playoff which takes place the day before the final.
Once you are sure you have finished your picks, save the document and notify the TSzAL that you are done. Once you agree that the bracket is finished, you will not be able to make any further changes. The information in your bracket will be downloaded and locked in.
Brackets must be filled out by the end of Friday, November 18th. It takes time to verify that there are no mistakes and to set up the automatic scorecard used to speed up scorekeeping. Any late entries will be subject to a yellow card, and if entered after the tournament has begun, any picks for matches that have already been played will not be counted towards your score.
Before we explain the point system of this tournemnt, we would like to share a brief message. There is much turmoil in the world today in the form of military battles, and political dissaray. Where some governments look to overthrow democracy, and other nations vote for political parties that would strip democratic rights away, we at the TSzAL stand firmly against them. Everyone deserves the right to live a life where they can pursue their goals, enjoy their friends and family, and make certain decisions about how they live. As such, the 2022 Winter World Cup of Qatar will be doing away with Buddy Points and Nation associated bonus points.
This year, your picks will determine how you finish. No more are players associated with a Nation based on a player's ranking. No more will there be a draft where Buddy nations are picked with the higher ranking players picking first. Everything is down to who you pick, and how you have them perform. The playing field is even, and as long as you stay within reach of the player in first, you are in it from start to finish. The group system for players will be in effect throughout the entirety of the tournament. There will be no elimination for a playoff format that negates your performance during the group stage. With that being said, let us move onto how the points are allocated.
In the first round you will receive 5 points for any result you correctly predict. For any match that ends with your picked team winning, or in a draw if you picked a draw, you receive 5 points. The Oracle point system is back. For every team's goal total you correctly pick in a match you earn more points. If you pick one team's goal total correctly, you will receive another 2 points. If you pick the match score correctly, you receive 5 points. For the first round you can earn 0, 2, 5, 7, or 10 points for each match.
Once we reach the playoffs, the scoring system from the first round remains. However, in order to receive 5 points for picking the correct result, you must have picked the correct matchup. This means that your group winner must matchup with your group runner-up. It is possible to have teams in the correct matchup, but the incorrect order. That is your group winner could finish as runner-up, and the runner-up could finish as the group winner. You would have the correct teams, but they would be entered in the bracket in the incorrect order. In a situation like this, you would not win the 5 points even if you correctly picked the team that advances.
As a bonus, for every playoff match, if you picked the correct mathchup you will receive 10 points. This means, for example, if you pick the correct winner of match 55 and match 56, you will recieve 10 points for match 60. If you have these two teams, but they are matched up in a diffrent part of the bracket, then you will not receive the 10 points.
The Oracle System remains in effect for the second round. Even if the matchup is wrong, you can still earn 2 or 5 points for correctly picking the goals scored. If you pick a match to go to penalty kicks, you can earn 2 or 5 points for the predicted penalty kick score.
How the playoff point system differs is in your ability to correctly pick the advancing teams. Every quarterfinalist you correctly pick is worth 25 points. Every semifinalist you pick is worth 50 points. Every finalist you pick is 75 points. Picking the 3rd place playoff winner is worth another 75 points. And correctly picking the 2022 FIFA World Cup Champion is worth 100 points.
In the event of a tie, the Oracle Point system becomes the tiebreaker. In the event that two players are tied going into the final two matches of the tournament even on Oracle Points, then a tie-breaking rule will be explained to those players. They will then make a prediction to break the tie should they finish on the same points and oracle points when the tournament ends. This tie-breaker will not count towards their point total for the tournament. It will only apply to breaking the tie.
In conclusion, as Winter approaches we will have the joy of World Cup soccer on Thanksgiving for the first time ever. And we will have a FIFA World Cup and TSzAL Puchar Zladupki winner just one week from Christmas. May all your Christmases be Merry and White. And may fortunes be ever in your favor.
Good Luck My Little Crias,
The Grand Salmon Alpaca
