This Asian Cup May be in Australia, but Our Little Asian is bringing the Thunder Down Under

Group C kicked off action today with the United Arab Emirates facing their rivals Qatar. It's hard to imagine what soccer on sand looks like, but it must have resembled the action on the grass in this game. It was a ping pong battle. A number of goals were scored off of wild action. This game was much like your picks, all over the place and foolish looking. Qatar opened scoring on a save that came back out to former Asian player of the year Khalfan Ibrahim who chipped over an out of position keeper in the 22nd minute. The Emirates would take the game back off of two braces by Ahmed Khalil (37',52') and Ali Mabkhout (56',89') made it 4:1. Qatar will host a World Cup in 2022, so losing an Asian Cup will only hurt their pride. As for UAE, look out Asian powerhouses, this small country of wealthy Arabs is looking to pounce.

United Arab Emirates 4:1 Qatar

Scriptor: United Arab Emirates 2:2 Qatar
Artifex: United Arab Emirates 1:2 Qatar
IoannexNix: United Arab Emirates 0:1 Qatar
Quaesitor: United Arab Emirates 1:2 Qatar

The prime time match saw Asia's top ranked team Iran battle Bahrain. Iran showed all the class and skill that UAE and Qatar lacked. They coolly took a 1:0 lead just before halftime off a Ehsan Hajsafi lob just outside the box. They would put the game away in the 71st minute off of a corner kick when Masoud Shojaei would score. It was the All Iran show, which is what a true number one does, unlike our number 1 ranked Praeceptor who has failed to show for this tournament. Onto the results.

Iran 2:0 Bahrain

Scriptor: Iran 4:0 Bahrain
Artifex: Iran 3:2 Bahrain
IoannesNix: Iran 2:0 Bahrain **
Quaesitor: Iran 0:3 Bahrain

Onto the Bonus Bonanza questions. As IoannesNix answered first, Orange is Scriptor's favorite color. As Artifex answered first, a bison is Scriptor's favorite animal. Quaesitor, good try, but you failed to gain a bonus point, because none of you guessed Scriptor's favorite number is 6 (yes, that number). As a result, Scriptor has gained that bonus point.

Low and behold, number one ranked, reigning World Champion Praeceptor has decided to join the contest. I guess being the best in the world means you can be cocky enough to show up late and take out the competition. This Grand Salmon Alpaca is seeing red.

Good luck and good night, contestants. The tournament gets real tomorrow.
