Group D entered it's final day of play with all the drama. Japan lead the group with 6 points, but Jordan and Iraq had 3. Even Palestine still had a chance to advance to the playoffs, but they would need a big win over Iraq and for Japan to decimate Jordan. Action would pick in the Japan game as 24 minutes in Jordan's Amer Shafi would make a save, but the ball would fall to Keisuke Honda for the goal. In the other match, Palestine would look to strike first, but Iraq would hold them scoreless after a scramble for the ball in front of goal was cleared away. Iraq would come alive in the second half, but struggled with their finishing. It would take a corner kick that would be headed in by Younus Mahmood at the 48th minute for Iraq to take the lead. Palestine would keep fighting, but a save by Iraqi keeper Jalal Hassan would keep them scoreless. An Iraqi penalty kick in the 60th minute would be saved by Palestine's Tawfiq Abduhammad to give his side a chance. Back in Japan's game, Jordan's keeper Shafi would save a great shot off a corner kick to keep his side in the match. Shafi would repeatedly get hands on the ball, but Shinji Kagawa's 82nd minute shot would hit the keepers hands and go in. Down 0:2 and with Iraq leading in the other game, it looked like curtains for Jordan. Keisuke Honda would almost make it 3:0, but he did what you never want your Honda to do, struck a post. Iraq would seal their own fate when they would strike in the 88th minute off of Ahmed Yasin's goal. Japan take top spot in the group and will face United Arab Emirates in the next round. Iraq have stolen the second spot, and get to meet their neighbors Iran in the Quarterfinals.
